Ioannina, the capital of Epirus, spreads out around beautiful Lake Pamvotida.

The strong cultural traditions of the town, home to a number of great novelists and poets, and the artistic and intellectual events which are organized throughout the year give visitors the opportunity to get to know the roots of the intellectual life of Epirus.

A walk through the city has the feel of a bygone era, full of secret places and legends still living.

Wonderful buildings like the House Matei Hussein, the Ottoman mosque of Veli Pasha and the entire historic center of the town are unique attractions.

The imposing castle of Ioannina was built in 528 AD by the Emperor Justinian and was an ambitious expression of the might of the Byzantine Empire.

It is the oldest Byzantine fortress in Greece with significant influence over the history of the town which grew around it.

The routes around the lake offer exquisite scenery and plenty to explore. A tour by car is an experience to suit all kinds of traveler – there is much to see, much to learn about, and there is the serene calming effect of the lake.

The expression to “live like the Pasha in Ioannina” means that a person is enjoying the absolute best that life has to offer.

It is not enough to have the title of the ruler; he also has to live in Ioannina.

It is the distillation, in colloquial terms, of the idea that Ioannina was always a wealthy and aristocratic city.

The trip can take from 8 to 12 hours according to the group’s needs.

Departure & Return Location Corfu Port

Our first visit will be Achilleion Palace, built from Empress Elizabeth. It is situated on the top of a hill in the traditional village of Gastouri.

Arriving at the Palace you will be amazed by its unique beauty of the garden areas and the interior wall drawings, statues and monuments of Zeus, Era, the Peristyles of the Muses and the magnificent ‘ Dying Achilles ‘ statue which represents Achilles trying to remove the spear from his ankle.

It is the largest statue of Achilles, with unbelievable dimensions, which presents Achilles in a moment of victory.

As we leave Gastouri village, following the west coast road of Corfu, passing numerous traditional Corfu villages, our tour stops at Perama.

Perama is on the opposite hill of Kanoni, and a long bridge that crosses the sea joins the two sides, which can be passed only on foot taking you to the Convent of Vlachernas under the hill of Kanoni.

Perama is the ideal place to admire the famous view of Mouse Island, ‘Pontikonisi’ and take the best pictures of it with your camera.

Getting back on the minibus this Full Day Private tour in Corfu continues heading to the traditional and famous village Pelekas.

Pelekas is built on one of the most beautiful hills of Corfu which attracts many tourists every year.

Apart from the traditional form of the village, with the narrow streets, the main square, and its churches, its main characteristic is the magnificent view from the top of the hill known as the “throne of Kaiser”, because German emperor Kaiser Goulielmos the 2nd used to enjoy this magnificent spectacle.

At dusk, the sunset from the top of the hill of Pelekas is considered to be the most beautiful in Corfu.

If you, your friend or group of friends feel like having a coffee, the cafe close to Kaiser Throne is open all day.

Passing through villages and green hills, our next stop will be Paleokastritsa.

Paleokastritsa is located on the northwest coast of Corfu. It is considered to be one of the most beautiful villages in Corfu.

It consists of six different small coasts and rocky beaches with crystal blue seawater.

From almost every coast small boats can take you for a boat trip to the caves that can be found along its coastline to admire the crystal water and the beauty of nature.

Close to Paleokastritsa is the very well known village of Lakones.

From this village the view is spectacular, so this will be our next stop. Lakones is a traditional Corfu village where apart from the view you can enjoy excellent Greek food including some of the local special Corfu’s menus.

Aggelokastro is the westernmost fortress of the Byzantine empire and the Despotate of Epirus, which included Corfu until 1267.

It was built in the 12th century and according to the local tradition, the inhabitants and the 8 guards, resisted so successfully that the Turks decided to retreat and leave Corfu.

Inside the castle, you will discover the churches of Taxiarches and Agia Kyriaki.

Agia Kyriaki was built in a small cave and Taxiarches on top of another older Church. The view from the castle is unique.

Most of the visitors come even on foot from a Byzantine path that starts from Paleokastritsa, just to admire this view.

After this, relax in the privacy and comfort of your minibus as we move to our final destination.

Our driver will take you to the old Corfu town center where you are able to visit the old Fortress of Corfu, do some shopping into the Venetian styleCorfu Town shops, have a coffee in the famous Liston and get the blessings from the Miracle-Worker, Saint Spyridon by your visit into the main Church of Corfu, Saint Spyridon Church.
